Australia 108 virtual golf range tapping into latest trend

Virtual golf ranges in apartment complexes appear to be the latest trend for upmarket developments across Melbourne.

The virtual golf concept, where a resident is given a golf club and physically swings to hit a real ball that is then visualised on a screen, has been popular in resorts in the past.

Melbourne's upcoming tallest tower, Australia 108, designed by Fender Katsalidis Architects, will soon boast the latest virtual golf driving range in the country.

Located in the "Sky Rise Club" on level 11, the golf range will be an addition to a suite of facilities, including a private theatrette, a lap pool, a sauna room and outdoor barbecue features.

The golf simulator is from X Golf, whose general manager Charles Styles explains that the system is based on real golf courses around the world. At present the courses are primarily from Asia and America, with more Australian courses to be added.

"For an average game it would take someone 45 minutes to get through what would normally be a three to four-hour course," Mr Styles said.

Mr Styles suggested Melbourne would be seeing  more virtual golf ranges over the next year.
